5 Skills You Can Learn To Future-Proof Your Life After Quarantine, Career Near Me

5 Skills You Can Learn To Future-Proof Your Life After Quarantine.

By Marvin Marcano.

There are two narratives that have come about since we are quarantining to fight COVID-19. The first is the consumption narrative. Now is a great time to catch up on your shows. Relive some stress through binge-watching, YouTube, Live parties and TikTok. The second is the production/hustle narrative. You have lots of time so get off your ass and produce. Create more content. Complete that online course you’ve been thinking of creating. Level up. Level up. Level up. There’s even a quote circulating online:
“If you don’t come out of this quarantine with new skills, a side hustle started or more knowledge, you never lacked time, you lacked discipline.”
To be honest, I’ve been more invested in the second narrative. I see this as an opportunity to create more, try new things, and even make more money. At the same time, I’ve also realized that connection is necessary. You may be watching Netflix with your loved ones or having Instagram Live chats with friends who you miss dearly. The quote above may be overkill, but if I could encourage you to do one thing while locked down, it’s to learn a skill. Not just any skill, but what’s often called a High-Income Skill.
If it’s one thing we know, it’s that Father Time is undefeated. There will be a period when the virus is controlled and there may even be a vaccine. At that point, everyone will be picking up the career, business, and financial pieces of their lives. There will also be a shift in the needs of society too. People will be more conscious of their health and wellness. Remote work would be commonplace. The world will be constantly crunching the data to fight another possible wave or to prevent another biological catastrophe. At that stage, if you’re still looking for the same job or trying to do the same things you were doing before, you’ll be behind the eight ball.

Skills Pay The Bills.
If you had to take a pay cut, reduced hours or lost your job altogether, you now know the value of learning a new skill. That skill would have given you a high value. Your employer or client would not have been able to function without your expertise. Use the sting of losing out to get you learning something new. A high-income skill is a skill that’s always in demand. The better you get at it, the more you can earn from it.
As entrepreneur Dan Lok puts it, a high-income skill, “is a skill set that will earn you an income of $10,000 USD or more each month, or $120,000 USD or more a year.”

A high-income skill allows you to pivot in times of crisis so you can still thrive. Most skills today don’t require a formal degree. And many businesses and employers no longer look for your degree. They need proof that you have the skills and can deliver what they need. There are many online courses that can help you get the skills you need. While there are several other high-income skills, I believe these will serve you in almost any niche and at any time (crisis or not).

1. Web Development.
Despite the fact that there are billions of websites in the world, there is still room for more. And many businesses need persons to build, adjust and maintain websites for them. Web Development requires you to learn the programming languages, commands, and platforms needed to build responsive websites and applications. You can be a Front End, Back End, or Full-Stack Web Developer.
The demand for developers is not slowing down. Even junior developers can command 6 figure salaries. You can also have a consultancy or side hustle building websites, membership sites, or applications. Web Development could be self-taught and you can build a portfolio as you go along.
2. Copywriting.
Every advertisement you’ve seen in your life has copywriting involved. Every web page, emails, sales letter, brochure, or webinar needed great copy for the intended message to get across. Copywriting is sales in print and it’s sales right now. It’s learning a specific formula and adding creativity to craft words to help businesses sell their products and services.
Most business owners struggle to write copy for their webinars, video sales letters, and written sales letters.
With daily practice, taking on clients for cheap at first, and some reading and courses, you can learn copy.
Advanced copywriters are paid tens of thousands because they earn their clients hundreds of thousands in return.
3. Data Science.
Data Scientists help companies extract knowledge from mounds and mounds of data. Using sleuthing, Math, statistics, machine learning, and programming, data scientists try to make sense of it all. We produce billions of pieces of data every month. With the right info, companies can make more money or countries can solve epidemics. You can immediately provide value to a company or government despite being self-taught. Data science has a larger learning curve than web development. But having this in your back pocket makes you valuable.
4. Sales.
Everybody sells. We have to persuade people to do the things we want. As the saying goes, once you can sell, you will never go hungry. Once you could find customers, talk about your product or service, and handle objections, you can thrive in any field.
5. Focus.
When did focus become a skill? It’s becoming increasingly difficult for persons to commit to one task for long periods of time. If you can focus, you have a significant advantage in the workplace. Focus ties into the other skills. If you can concentrate on one thing for long periods, you’re most likely to complete it. There are too many distractions reducing productivity, revenue, and growth. Today, the people who build a reputation of doing what they say they’re going to do end up being very successful.

Conclusion.
Grab one hour out of your day to learn a new skill. There are other high-income skills. But these can be very powerful the better you get with them. And they will hold up the test of time. When you’re out of quarantine, new skill in hand, you’ll be ready to take on the world.
